DAY 5
Welp, day 5 was spent in the doctor's office for the second time this week. Yes, round number two at Urgent Care for Kenidi. We have learned on this trip that Kenidi Grace is allergic to mosquito bites. This is new news to us. After our walk on the beach in Naples Wednesday evening, she ended up with a bite on her eyelid. We saw it - and it looked like a normal bite above her eye. However, this morning...she woke up singing the blues when we discovered that her eye was swollen - almost shut.
So...back we went to the urgent care facility in Bonita Springs. She had that welt and others on her arms from the bites. When I say these are welts, I mean that they are massive bumps or knots rather on her skin. They swell up like nothing we've ever seen. Then, to have her eye almost sealed shut, worried us.
After hanging out in the doc's office for a bit, he finally came in and said we needed to continue with the topical steroid cream on her bumps but that unfortunately....there was absolutely nothing he could do for her eye. We just have to let the venom from the bite wear off and wait on the swelling to subside over the next 2-3 days.
Needless to say, we feel horrible for her and will be lathering her up in Deep woods off bug spray, long sleeves, and jeans whenever we shall venture out at night again. This advice comes per the doctors and nurses here. This is horrible beings that we are in Florida and its V.E.R.Y. hot. However, it must be done. She sure would make for a great pirate right now though with this stylish look. ;)
You Florida residents...how on earth do you deal with these bugs this time of the year? They ate Brent alive so bad on the beach that night that he literally had blood on his legs from where they were biting. Is there a special spray or trick to keeping them at bay? If so, please let me know. In the meantime, we'll be sending Grandma "D" back home on a plane Friday morning. She leaves to head back to Indy tomorrow and we are very sad to see her go. However, the kids have clung to her all week and given her very little peace. Therefore, you might see her "running" to the airport in the morning. Ha ha! She's been a huge help with Kenidi and her mood swings this week. Thanks Deb! It's been fun! We love ya!XOXOXO, The Griswald's

poor thing ~ hope the swelling goes down quickly :(
those bugs must like her because she is just so SWEET :)
Hey Angie,
Wow poor little Kenidi she has been through so much on this trip and what there's about 3-4 weeks left? Usually I take with me (Avon's) Skin so Soft let me tell you it works wonders, also I use vinegar it's a "Greek" thing but you know what it really does work ,you will think in the back of your mind what is she kidding me but I AM SERIOUS ,it really works and then after 5-10 mintes it doesnt smell as much ..TRY IT!
Enjoy the rest of the vacation . Happy 4th ....
OMG! Poor thing! I live in Tampa - not too far from where you are - and i feel your pain! They don't tell tourists about our little friends until they've arrived and have been attacked by them. The mosquitos are horrible due to all of the rain we've been having here the last few weeks. We do not use any perfumed lotions as they seem to attract them more and the avon skin-so-soft bug repellent works the best - it's just like regular lotion so you may be able to put it on her face somewhat. A few years ago I woke up with my top lip swollen beyond belief due to a mosquito bite - it could touch my nose - I looked deformed. We head out to Siesta Key in Sarasota on Sunday and you are not making me feel good about our trip now! J/K : )
Take care and hopefully no more trips to the Dr for the rest of your trip!
Hope you guys are having a blast!
Lilly
Sorry to hear about Kenidi and the mosquitos!
I know that when visitin grandparents/family in Arkansas, it was always a given that you didn't go outside unless you were lacquered in OFF bug spray. You could literally see the mosquito masses. It's bad enough to get the bites so I can't imagine being allergic.
Hang in there!

Hi! Long time lurker here - we learned when my brother was playing ball that putting un-used dryer sheets in your pockets, under a hat, etc. will help to keep the mosquitos and bugs away (plus you smell good!) Didn't know if you had heard of this before or not but its worth a shot!
Seriously???? I'm sorry y'all are having such a rough time! Hopefully this will be the last of it!
Happy Fourth of July!!!
Hang in there with all these bites Kenidi. Even with one eye swollen you are still as adorable as ever!
See you soon!
Hello Griswalds! This is Kathy and Payton in TN! I am in total disbelief that you have had to make two trips to the immediate care! Payton is SOOOOO worried about Kenidi--I showed her the pictures this morning since she says Kenidi is her BFF! Please tell her Payton said she loves her, misses her, take care of herself and she hopes Kenidi feels better really soon!
so sorry about your "bump in the road" on vacation! she still looks beautiful! come over to our site soon...we have given you an award that you are so deserving of!

Poor thing. If you can get some Avon Skin so soft, it works great and doesn't have the deet like Off spray does.

Angie,
These are some awesome pictures especially the 3rd one down of the Pier and the one of Brennen with his hands up in the air. CLASSIC keep forever pictures of Kenidi throwing a tantrum. You really are good at photography and "CAPTURING" frame by fram of Kenidi on those shots. Also, how did you get BRENNEN 08 emposed on the picture at the restaraunt is a special software program on your camera? I also really like the picture that you took of the PIER- breathtaking.
read the previous e-mail about Kenidi' 2ND trip to the immediate care. I hope that the topical steroids really start to work soon for her and your sake. I'm sure that it looks worse than it feels as bug bites usually do.
Well, hopefully, the rest of your vacation will go better. Talk to you soon.

Hey Ang~
Hope you are having a great time! I wanted to tell you a couple of helpful hints.
1) Mosquito's like fair skin more...That would be why Brent and I get eaten alive! lol
2) My son Eli is allergic to mosquito's also. Usually what people are allergic to is the substance the mosquito secretes into us before they suck our blood...ewe...but it numbs us a little so we don't feel the mosquito on us. Eli has had a welt on his leg when he was about three that was the size of my hand, then it turned into sepsis (an infection in his skin)...all from a mosquito bite. The good news is, now that he is 11, he is outgrowing it. He still has allergic reactions, but not bad at all. Hopefully little Kenidi will outgrow it too. Avon makes a lotion and body spray called "skin so soft" that works as a mosquito repellent. It wasn't made for that, but they have discovered that it works. It doesn't smell as bad as the bug spray and you would be sparing Kenidi of all the chemicals (deet). Hope some of this info helps. Talk to you later girlie!
Love ya!

hey ang,
after living down there myself for 4 years i learned a few things.....#1 most important, those bugs are very attracted to cologne, perfume and lotions with a scent; i learned to go out at night with the slight hint of bug spray and nothing more. see if that helps you out at all. it is the smells they are attracted to, it's a good thing to smell good but it's a bad thing to attract the wrong kind of company...BUGS!! With it being July those bugs are very bad.....are the love bugs out down there yet??? it may be too early for them but they are horrible too!
hope this helps you out a little bit!
have fun on this fourth and i'll wish for no bug bites in tomorrow's posting!!
love,
susan
Poor baby! We hope the swelling goes down soon! We hope you all have a great 4th of July!!!! Angie you are one talented photographer! We love all of the pictures! Brennen and Kenidi are precious!
Love and Hugs!

My babies! I just think this is so wrong! I hope her immune system isn't down or something. This kind of thing hasn't happened before down there.Must be a whole new batch of mosquito's from some outher planet or something. I don't know if I want to come down there now? smile. I am itching already. You may need to cut this trip short if too much more goes on. That was probably too long anyway. Let me know before monday morning-I don't want to show up and be "Home Alone" Seriously, I am concerned-will be praying for all-watch out brennen!xoxoxox sending Angels to watch over all!
Oh my, poor Kenidi. Those looks so itchy and I would have taken her to the urgent care too. There must be something they can do? Poor thing, itching is awful!! Hope she is better soon.
