If you aren't familiar with the book called "ELF ON THE SHELF," you must acquaint yourself with it and with Mr. Elf that comes with the book. This is a tradition we've started in our family and Kenidi especially loves it. The story was born by Carol Aebersold regarding her and her families traditions beginning back in the 1970's. This cleverly rhymed children's book explains that Santa knows who is naughty and/or nice because he sends a scout elf to every home. The elf watches the children's behavior and reports it back to Santa each night. By morning the elf returns to its assigned home and hides in a different location, allowing the children to play a delightful hide-and-seek game. Each product comes with its very own elf doll enabling others to begin this fun-filled Christmas tradition themselves.
So...over the next few weeks, you might see Mr. Elf (we like to call him Jack in our house), pop up here on the ol' AGD blog and reveal some of his hiding places within our home. Keep a watch out for him from time to time. This is an event that Kenidi loves to do and she truly enjoys the book as well as finding "Jack-ers" each day. It's great fun for us and for Brennen - even though he is well aware of Santa's status this year.
I encourage you to find and buy this box set for you and your family. It makes for a great tradition each holiday season. The book even has a place in the back where you can name your elf, sign the book, and date when your tradition began. This also makes for a great gift item for someone on your list. Rumor has it that the box set is out of print now but that they still sell the book in certain stores. I know eBay has copies of the box set still floating around so you might try there. You'll want the set that comes with the book and the matching elf. If you can only find the book, grab an elf ornament or something else ELF related that you can use in conjunction with the book. Either way, it's a must do tradition.
Hey Angie~ I saw this great book set last year on a blog and never got it...today a catalog from HALLMARK came in the mail and lo' and behold there the box set is in the Hallmark catalog (24.99, I think)...and on the back is a 40% off coupon on any catalog item....JACKPOT!! Anyway, your readers may be able to find the box set at Hallmark
Love it, love it, love it! Thank you for always posting such great ideas like these Holiday traditions and new places to check out (like the cupcake place). I am not a crafty person at all, but you inspire me with all of your neat finds and craftiness!
I've been thinking about getting this book for my kids! So cute! Thanks for the comment on my blog. I first found you 3 yrs or so ago on ebay while I was pregnant with my first daughter. I've always admired your designs and it inspired me to learn to sew and create clothing for my little girl! Now I sew for both of them and sell baby things on etsy! I will definitely keep in touch!
Hi, I'm a first time visitor and commentor (saw your link on All My Kids). The lady that keeps my daughter took her to Barns and Noble the other day and the lady that wrote the Elf on the Shelf was there signing her books. So she bought the box set for her and got it autographed. I had never even heard of this, but it has been SO much fun already this year! It will certainly be a tradition in our home.
